Green Beer and other Libations..
Drinking of beer, green and otherwise is definitely part of the rituals involved with this holiday. There is more beer consumed in Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day that there is on any other day of the year. This may well be because of St. Patrick’s Pagan based practice of honoring Brigid with “poteen,” which is an Irish beer made from potatoes. St. Patrick, by the way, is also credited as bringing the art of distillery to Ireland.

End your St. Patrick’s Day toast off with a hearty ‘Sláinte!’ (pronounced ‘slawn-cha’), which means Health! and is the equivalent to ‘Cheers!’
To St. Patrick’s Day:
“Saint Patrick was a gentleman,
Who through strategy and stealth,
Drove all the snakes from Ireland,
Here’s a toasting to his health.
But not too many toastings
Lest you lose yourself and then
Forget the good Saint Patrick
And see all those snakes again.”
